Everything for the Energy test: study cards, the traps to dodge, a practice quiz at three levels — Foundation, On-Level, and Challenge — and a lab where you sort the forms, follow the electricity around a loop, graph the ramp-and-cup test, and explain where the energy went. Work here, or print it and use a pencil — both count.
A hot mug and a cold hand. Two temperatures, not touching yet.
Heat always moves from hot to cold. Your cold hands do not give cold to the cocoa — the cocoa gives heat to your hands. There is no such thing as cold moving.
Two things people get wrong
⚠️People often think…
A heavy thing always has more energy than a light one.
Speed counts too. A bowling ball barely rolling can carry less energy than a marble flicked hard across the floor. Ask about both the mass and how fast it is going.
Heavy and fast both count.
⚠️People often think…
When a battery dies, the energy is used up and gone.
It turned into other things — light, sound, and mostly heat that spread out into the room. Energy changes form; it never disappears. It just ends up somewhere you cannot use.
It changes form, mostly into heat.
Where from, what form, where next
1Watch one
A lamp is plugged in but nothing lights. Walk the loop.
A circuit only works as a closed LOOP — out and all the way back.
Follow the path with your finger: plug, wire, bulb, wire, plug.
Find the break. One loose wire or a burnt-out bulb opens the loop.
Close the loop and it lights. One gap anywhere is enough to stop it. ✓
2Do one with me
Fill in where the energy went.

Why do your cold hands not give cold to the cocoa?
3Try one
Two shirts in the sun, one black and one white. Which gets hotter?
I want a hint first
You can see white because it bounces light to your eyes. Black does not bounce it — so where does the light go?
Where this goes
Where this lives
A phone that gets warm while charging, a dark car in a parking lot, a string of lights where one bulb kills the whole line.
What this feeds
Next unit is Earth’s changing surface — energy moving rock instead of heat.
Name one place you have felt heat move from hot to cold.
One card at a time — tap “Show me” to check yourself, then Next. Start at Foundation; when those feel easy, climb.
Helpful Hints
🪜 From the sun to your lamp — the ladder
Sunlight → plants store it → we eat it, or it becomes coal and oil, or it drives wind and rain → power plants and batteries → electricity in wires → light, motion, sound and heat at the other end. Heat leaks out at every arrow.
Sun, store, carry, use, leak.
🤝 The whole topic in one idea
Energy is never made or lost — it just moves from thing to thing and changes form. When something moves, lights, sounds or warms, ask where the energy came from and where it went next.
Where from, what form, where next.
⚠️ Traps the test loves
Heat moves HOT to COLD. Your cold hands don’t give cold to the cocoa; the cocoa gives heat to your hands.
Faster = more energy. A slow bowling ball can have less energy than a fast marble.
A circuit needs a closed LOOP. One loose wire and nothing lights.
Energy isn’t ‘used up’ — it turns into heat and spreads out.
Coal, oil and gas are NON-renewable. Sun, wind and water are renewable.
Dark things absorb light and get hot; white things bounce it.
⚡ Six forms of energy — the chart
Form
You notice it when…
Example
motion
something moves
a rolling ball, a fan blade
light
you can see it
the sun, a bulb
sound
something vibrates
a drum, a voice
heat
something warms up
a stove, rubbing hands
electrical
it flows in a wire
a flashlight circuit
stored
it is waiting
a battery, food, a ball held high
Move, see, hear, feel, flow, wait.
🎯 How the test will ask
A device — “what form goes in, what form comes out?” (toaster: electrical in, heat out).
A ramp table — “higher start, what happens to the cup?” (slides farther — more energy).
A circuit drawing — “will the bulb light?” (is the loop closed?).
A list of sources — “renewable or not?” (does it come back?).
✅ Before the test, can you…
Name six forms of energy with an example each?
Trace the energy through a flashlight or a fan?
Explain why a higher marble knocks a cup farther?
Say what a circuit needs to light a bulb?
Sort five energy sources into renewable and not?

Lab
Work like a scientist: label the diagrams, turn the table into a graph, then write a claim with evidence and reasoning. Every lab checks itself on the spot, and hints are free.
Your practice never leaves this device. There is no account and no sign-in. Your work is saved in this browser only, and you can erase it whenever you want.
Your practice record — saved on this device
This is your record of the module on screen — it stays here and goes nowhere. Independent means you got it right on the first tap; supported means you got it after the explain-and-retry, or marked ‘I had it’ on a revealed answer. Both count, and neither is a grade. If your teacher asks, copy the row or show them this screen.

The answer key is for a teacher: it prints only from here, for the unit on screen. Print the study packet prints the study pages and a blank quiz — never the answers.
