The Interior — Exam Prep

Materials and How They Change

Materials for the youngest scientists: study cards a grown-up can read aloud, the tricky ones, a practice quiz at three levels — Foundation, On-Level, and Challenge — and a lab where you sort solids from liquids, sort the changes that come back from the ones that don't, label ice, water and steam with the heat and cold that move them, and argue whether a melted crayon is still a crayon. Work here, or print it and use a crayon — both count.

Does it come back?

A bar of chocolate. Hard, in one piece, its own shape.

Two things people get wrong

People often think…

Sand is a liquid, because you can pour it.

People often think…

Melted chocolate poured into a mold is a new material.

Comes back, or does not

Watch one

Ice melts into water. Is that a new material?

  1. Ask what it was: water, frozen hard.
  2. Ask what it is now: water, as a liquid.
  3. Now the real test — put it back in the freezer. Does it come back?
  4. It does. Same water the whole time, just colder or warmer. ✓
One sentence, then you move on

How can you tell a change comes back?

Where this goes

Where this lives

Cooking, freezing leftovers, picking a raincoat over a paper one, knowing that a melted crayon is still a crayon.

What this feeds

That closes the K–2 science band. Everything here comes back in third grade with measurements attached.

Name one change you have seen that could not be undone.

Your practice record — saved on this device

This is your record of the module on screen — it stays here and goes nowhere. Independent means you got it right on the first tap; supported means you got it after the explain-and-retry, or marked ‘I had it’ on a revealed answer. Both count, and neither is a grade. If your teacher asks, copy the row or show them this screen.

The answer key is for a teacher: it prints only from here, for the unit on screen. Print the study packet prints the study pages and a blank quiz — never the answers.
