S. E. Hinton’s novel, chapter by chapter. Pick the chapter you just read: six study cards and a practice quiz at three levels for each one, with nothing from later chapters on the screen. The last choice in the list is the whole book. Work here, or print it and use a pencil — both count.
One card at a time — tap “Show me” to check yourself, then Next. Start at Foundation; when those feel easy, climb.
Helpful Hints
🪜 The whole story — the ladder
Ponyboy is jumped → the drive-in with Cherry → Darry hits Ponyboy → the park: Johnny kills Bob → hiding in the church → the fire → the rumble → Johnny and Dally die → Ponyboy is sick and numb → the hearing → Johnny’s letter → Ponyboy starts to write.
Two groups of kids are sure they are nothing alike. One boy crosses the line — first by talking with a Soc girl, then by living through the worst week of his life — and learns that everybody is an outsider to somebody, and that the way out is to really see people.
See the person, not the label.
⚠️ Mix-ups to dodge
Darry is NOT Dally. Darry is the big brother. Dally is the tough friend from New York.
Johnny — not Ponyboy — kills Bob, and he does it to save Ponyboy.
Bob has the rings and dies at the park. Randy is his friend who quits fighting.
Cherry is not Ponyboy’s girlfriend. She is Bob’s girlfriend who becomes Ponyboy’s friend.
The greasers WIN the rumble — and it changes nothing.
Soda is the brother; Steve is Soda’s best friend; Two-Bit is the joker.
The gold poem is by Robert Frost. Ponyboy recites it; Johnny explains it in his letter.

🎯 How the test will ask
A character’s action — “what trait does this show?” Name the trait AND point to the action.
“How does ___ change?” — give a START moment and an END moment, with chapter numbers.
A short passage — “whose point of view?” It is always Ponyboy’s: look for “I.”
A symbol — “what does it stand for?” Sunsets = what is shared. Gold = young and good. Hair = belonging.
“What is a theme of the novel?” — answer with a full sentence, not one word.
✅ Before the test, can you…
Name the three Curtis brothers and say one thing about each?
Tell a greaser from a Soc — and name one thing both sides share?
Put nine events of the story in order?
Explain how Ponyboy AND Johnny change, with a start moment and an end moment for each?
Say what “stay gold” means in your own words?
Write a claim, evidence with a chapter number, and reasoning?

Workshop
Work like a reader: sort who is who, put the story in order, label the plot mountain, then track how Ponyboy changes.
Your practice never leaves this device. There is no account and no sign-in. Your work is saved in this browser only, and you can erase it whenever you want.
Your practice record — saved on this device
This is your record of the module on screen — it stays here and goes nowhere. Independent means you got it right on the first tap; supported means you got it after the explain-and-retry, or marked ‘I had it’ on a revealed answer. Both count, and neither is a grade. If your teacher asks, copy the row or show them this screen.

The answer key is for a teacher: it prints only from here, for the chapter on screen. The two print buttons below the sheet print that chapter’s study pages, or its practice quiz on its own — never the answers.
