Sorting: Guilt vs. Shame

Guilt is about what I DID. Shame is about who I AM. Does this attack the behavior or the person? Does it point toward fixing or toward hiding?

Part 1 · Sort each statement
I made a bad choice today.
I am a terrible person.
I forgot my homework — I need to be more responsible.
I am stupid.
I yelled at my sister. That was not how I want to treat her.
Nobody really likes me.
I cheated on the quiz. I need to talk to my teacher.
I always ruin everything.

Take two SHAME statements above and rewrite them as GUILT statements — about what was done, pointing toward repair.

“The difference between guilt and shame is ___. Guilt is more helpful because ___.”
