A School Mark
Marks
Big questionWhat do the clothes and belts in a martial arts room tell people?
The story
Books on a Shelf
A jacket and a belt can tell a story, like a library book.
A small room has a wooden shelf by the door. On the shelf sits a white jacket, folded flat. A long cotton belt lies on top of it. The belt is orange.
The jacket and belt wait in a row, like books in a library. Each book has a label that tells where it goes. The belt is a label too. It tells which class a student is in.
The belt is not magic. It does not make anyone strong or fast. It is a mark the school gives. It shows how long a student has studied and what the teacher says they know.
Other rooms use other clothes. Fencers dress in white. Wrestlers in Illinois wear a one-piece suit. Each room picks clothes that fit its own rules.
